The Tankwa Karoo, with its endless plains, ancient mountains, brilliant skies, and uncompromising light, becomes a place transformed. Familiar scenes dissolve into something both timeless and unfamiliar.

Beyond Visible is an intimate photographic immersion set within the extraordinary landscapes surrounding the Tankwa Karoo. Presented by Craig Fouché and Sven Jurgensen, this workshop explores the rare craft of analogue infrared photography using medium and large format film systems. Every exposure reveals a spectrum beyond human vision, where light behaves differently and the landscape is rendered with striking clarity, luminous contrast, and quiet mystery.

Participants work exclusively with carefully selected infrared film stocks and analogue camera systems, provided for you. Success demands patience, precision, and intention. Exposure must be considered. Filters carefully chosen. Every frame is the result of understanding light rather than simply recording it.

You will receive one-on-one guidance and direction throughout, shaped to your pace and experience. Whether you are new to infrared photography or an experienced analogue photographer seeking to master its unique character, the workshop is tailored personally to you. Film stocks are selected in advance and allocated to your account, with careful consideration given to season, weather, and the remarkable quality of Tankwa's light.

The workshop follows the rhythm of the Karoo itself, where harsh midday sun becomes an artistic advantage rather than something to avoid. White vegetation, dramatic skies, distant mountains, and endless open spaces combine to create photographs unlike those possible with conventional film.

Cameras, specialist infrared film stocks, filters, development, high-resolution drum scanning, and optional fine printing are all handled with precision and care. If you do not own suitable equipment, it is provided. If you do, it is respected.
