Great Noise and Desert is an intimate photographic immersion set within Augrabies Falls National Park—a place of ancient granite, relentless river, and vast desert silence. Presented by Craig Fouché and Sven Jurgensen, this workshop is not about volume, speed, or perfection. It is about presence. About standing before something immense with a camera that demands intention.

This is photography in its rawest form.

Participants are hosted inside the National Park, where access, light, and atmosphere unfold slowly across days. We work exclusively with 1920s-era ultra-large & large format cameras and medium format film systems, provided for you, reconnecting the act of seeing with the discipline of making a single, considered exposure. No screens. No automation. No second chances. Each frame is deliberate—and therefore meaningful.

You will receive one-on-one guidance and direction throughout, shaped to your pace and experience. Whether you arrive with decades of practice or a deep curiosity for analogue craft, the workshop is tailored to you personally. Film stock is selected in advance and allocated to your account, with careful consideration given to subject, light, and intention.

The workshop is offered twice yearly, each season revealing a different character of Augrabies:

• Summer (Flood Season): raw power, thunder, mist, and movement—Africa at full voice.

• Winter (Dry Season): vast skies, desert stillness, stars, and the Milky Way unfolding above ancient rock.

Cameras, film stocks, development, high-resolution drum scanning, and optional fine printing are all handled with precision and care. If you do not own suitable equipment, it is provided. If you do, it is respected.
